Droobi Health announced its second partnership with Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) to recruit 2200 new members, offering digital health programs for people with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus or at risk for chronic conditions. This partnership comes after a pilot in 2019, with 500 patients recruited at PHCC’s Rawdat Al Khail and Leabaib Health Centers, to trial Droobi’s diabetes management program. Initial results from this pilot showed improved clinical outcomes such as lowered average blood sugar levels and weight.
The Droobi solution has proven to be a valuable asset during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis; helping to minimize the impact on regular care delivery and cope with backlogs, increased waiting lists and lack of regular in-person follow-ups; which pose health risks to patients living with chronic conditions.
This renewal of the partnership is part of the continued efforts exerted by PHCC to support the proactive management of high-risk diabetic patients during the COVID-19 pandemic via the Virtual Diabetes Management Clinic. As a result of this initiative, 59% of PHCC’s high risk diabetic population have received a telephone consultation with their family physician. The Droobi Health program will be utilized to further support this group of patients through self-management, lifestyle change and access to health educators (experienced in diabetes management) and nutritionists.
More than 70% of Qatari nationals are overweight, and 12% suffer from diabetes, many are looking for clinically effective, scalable solutions to help them manage their chronic condition and improve overall health. At the heart of Droobi’s programs they are designed to empower people to achieve their health goals through sustainable lifestyle change.
People diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, pre-diabetes, or metabolic syndrome who are eligible, will be guided through a tailored experience that includes a consultation and walkthrough of Droobi’s online program. Participants will track progress and receive proactive, tailored interventions and recommendations from their assigned certified diabetes educators (CDE) through online chats in Droobi’s app. The program also includes interactive educational lessons and an action plan tailored to the individuals’ specific conditions to help users build long-term healthy habits to achieve their goals.
While this journey of success continues, Dr. Samya Ahmad Al Abdulla, Senior Consultant of Family Medicine and Executive Director of (PHCC) stated that “PHCC is committed to finding innovative solutions to support our patients in the community during the ongoing pandemic. The Droobi Health application is one such solution. It is widely recognized that patients with diabetes are at greater risk of complications should they contract COVID-19. The Droobi Health application will strengthen PHCC’s efforts to support and protect out most vulnerable populations.”
“From a clinician’s perspective, the Droobi application has helped diabetic patients engage in their care management; supporting their glycemic control through lifestyle changes. Through this and other initiatives, PHCC has taken a great leap in reducing the burden diabetes in the community” Said Dr. Dalia Hassan, Family Medicine consultant at Leabaib Health Center
“I am so happy with the daily support I receive from the application and the health coach. They are super supportive, and I always benefit from their knowledge. I was able to adhere to my personalized plan, got back on track with my physical activity and changed my diet. I am so proud that I lost 5kg and got my blood sugars under control” Said Badria, one of the Droobi users recruited in 2019 yet still using the app after 13 months.
